How Coaching Works

As a coach, my job is to help you find your pathway to being your best.

Coaching works differently than other traditional learning techniques. Teachers use memorization, testing, and lecturing as learning methods. Consultants will give you advice and tell you what to do. As your coach, I’ll do none of those things.

Instead, I’ll ask you questions to help you self-reflect and question your assumptions. I’ll provide information about what works for others and let you make decisions for yourself. I’ll support you as try new things and help you find the best way forward for the leader you want to be.

As your coach, I assume that you are the expert in your life. Like a high school track coach, I can share best practices like, what shoes might for you, how to spring off the blocks, how to lengthen your stride. Your job is to try new techniques, decide what works for you, and in the end, learn how to run a better race.

In coaching conversations, I’ll help you self-reflect on where you are, where you want to be, and the skills you need to get there. As your coach, I’m always on your side. I’ll keep you on track as you build the skills you need. I’ll be there to support you and encourage you as you find new ways to break through to better results.

What to Expect When You Engage Me as a Coach

  1. I work on a basis of trust with my clients. When you engage me as your coach, there is no contract. You sign an agreement to pay for services, and I bill you at the end of each month for sessions completed. You can cancel at any time.
  2. Coaching conversations are strictly confidential. As an ICF certified coach, I am bound by a code of ethics not to discuss with anyone what we talk about in a coaching session (unless I’m required by law). On the other hand, as the client, you are encouraged to discuss the topics we cover with the people around you and find ways to ask for their help as you become a better leader.
  3. Coaching is an investment in yourself. The cost of coaching is less than you might think, and returns are higher than you might imagine. My clients gain substantial emotional intelligence in six months and, on average, are promoted within 12 months of working with me. About 20% of my clients double their salaries. I have different levels of coaching engagements that fit a variety of budgets and goals. If you are on a budget, let’s chat and find a level of coaching that’s right for you.
  4. Coaching is about change. For coaching to work, you must be open and honest with me and willing to try new things. If you are ready for change, you are ready for coaching.
