About Me

Lisa D. Foster, Ph.D., ACC

Lisa D. Foster, Ph.D., ACC

I coach experienced leaders at their next inflection point — when the visibility, scope, or stakes go up, and the old way of leading stops being enough.

My clients are seeking increased visibility, broader scope, or higher-stakes decisions. They understand that intelligence and hard work alone won’t get them there. They want to show up differently—especially when the stakes are high and ambiguity increases.

They want to be seen as ready for promotion. That means stronger leadership presence, clearer decision making under pressure, and the ability to lead other leaders effectively as scale expands.

For more than 8 years, I’ve coached leaders—particularly in biotech and pharma—as they step into bigger roles, manage other leaders, and navigate enterprise-level decisions.

On average, my clients move into their next role within 12 months. Many see meaningful increases in scope, influence, or compensation—not because they worked harder, but because they learned how to lead at a higher level.

From experience, I’ve observed that most leaders stall not because they lack strength — but because one skill lags behind the rest.

If you’re curious where you might be getting stuck—or what will matter most at your next level—I offer a short Leadership Skills Audit to help you see clearly where to focus next.

Why Mature Leaders Ask Better Leadership Questions — and Fewer of Them

Mature leaders use leadership questions to shape thinking rather than to manage behavior. As leaders mature, their leadership questions — and the impact of those questions—begin to change. They don’t ask more questions to stay in control. They ask fewer, better questions to create clarity, ownership, and trust. Early in a leadership career, questioning often looks like interrogation. Leaders probe for details, ask rapid‑fire follow‑ups, and jump quickly from one line of inquiry to another. The intent is usually good—understanding,…

When Leadership Matures, Decision Making Slows Down — and Gets Better

Mature leadership decision making requires the confidence to slow your own internal urgency long enough to see the whole system. Senior leaders often notice a quiet but unsettling shift as they grow in scope and responsibility: their decision making slows down. At first, this can feel risky. Early in a leadership career, speed is rewarded. Quick answers signal competence. Urgency feels like engagement. Momentum is created by reacting fast and clearing obstacles immediately. But as leadership matures, something changes. The…
