Get Clear on What Matters: Why Things Aren’t Working—and How to Move Forward

A small-group session on gaining clarity, getting unstuck, and figuring out what to do next

This is the first in a set of small-group sessions focused on how leaders get clear about how to move from friction to clarity, action, and impact.

This session focuses on leadership clarity—helping you understand what’s actually happening and how to move forward.

It Happens to Every Leader

A moment where we become unsure of how to make the impact we set out to make.

Sometimes, we can see where things are off.
Other times, we can’t quite tell what isn’t working—we just know something is off.

Either way, we’re not fully clear about how to move things forward—and keep people engaged and motivated.

It might be:

  • a conversation where the outcome matters, but the approach isn’t obvious
  • a situation where what worked before doesn’t seem like the right move now
  • a sense that something is missing—but it’s hard to name exactly what

These moments can feel isolating—especially when you’re expected to have answers.

But in reality, this is a point most leaders reach.

It’s not a lack of capability.
It’s that your role has expanded—and the situations you’re navigating have become more complex.

These are situations where judgment matters—and it’s not always clear what good judgment requires.

And in those moments, the challenge is seeing the situation clearly enough to choose the right approach.

What Tends to Get in The Way

In many of these situations, the challenge isn’t the issue itself.

It’s often about how the situation is being interpreted—by you and by others.

A few patterns tend to show up:

Acting on assumptions

You form a view of what’s happening—and move forward without fully checking whether it’s accurate.

Relying on an approach that no longer fits

What worked before is still shaping your response, even though the context has changed.

Moving forward without full alignment

The path may seem clear to you—but others may be operating from a different set of priorities or concerns.

These patterns are easy to miss in the moment—but once you can see them, your options start to expand.

What We’ll Do in This Session

This is a working session—not a presentation.

Please come with one situation that isn’t working the way you want.

The goal isn’t to give you answers—it’s to help you see the situation clearly enough to decide what to do.

Together, we’ll walk through a simple process to help you:

Clarify the situation you’re dealing with
What’s actually happening—and where things are getting stuck

Surface what may be missing
Assumptions, patterns, or dynamics that aren’t immediately visible

Look at the situation from a different angle
So you can see new options that weren’t obvious before

Define a next step that fits your context
Using new insights, you’ll leave with something you can try, based on your judgment—not a generic formula.

There will be time to reflect—and to hear how others are approaching similar challenges.

You won’t solve everything in an hour.

But you will leave with:

✔ a clearer understanding of one real situation
✔ a different way of thinking about it
✔ a more grounded sense of how to move forward

Who This Is For

This session is designed for leaders who are:

  • dealing with a situation that isn’t working—but aren’t fully clear why
  • trying to influence outcomes without overstepping or taking control away from others
  • navigating more complex dynamics than they’ve faced before
  • aware that something is missing in how they’re approaching a situation—and open to seeing it differently

It’s especially relevant if you’ve:

  • stepped into a larger or more complex role
  • found that what worked before isn’t working in the same way
  • started to question how to have the impact you’re aiming for

This is for thoughtful, capable leaders who want a clearer way to understand and navigate the situations in front of them.
